Operations Research

The School of Engineering at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in Operations Research at the Department of Industrial and System Engineering. Operations Research is one of the areas of the Department, together with Operations Management, Economics and Finance, and General Management. Hence, we seek candidates with strong background in the area but, at the same time, ability to interact with other researchers and be able to get involved in relevant applications of Operations Research. Applicants should have (or be currently pursuing studies toward) a PhD in Operations Research or a related area, have potential for teaching excellence at the undergraduate and graduate levels and a record of success in, or potential for, scholarly research and publication in leading academic journals. Being able to teach in Spanish in the near future is desirable, but not a requirement.

The School of Engineering at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile ranks among the top Latin American engineering institutions. Both our undergraduate and graduate programs are accredited by the Chilean Accreditation Commission (CNA), and our undergraduate programs are also accredited by the Accreditation Board of Engineering and Technology (ABET). The undergraduate program accepts a maximum of 500 students per year, chosen from among the top 3% of the country's students. Currently our full-time faculty includes 110 professors, 97% of whom have doctorates from prestigious universities worldwide. The School of Engineering has nine Departments and nine Research Centers, and offers Master's and Ph.D. degrees. The Operations Research position comes under the School's Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering. A leader in innovation and dissemination in the theory and practice of management, the Department's activities make a fundamental contribution to the education of industrial engineers at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. Research and Outreach activities at the Department include Management Sciences, as well as Economics and Finance and Organizational Sciences, generating activities with high impact in industry and government.

- A Statement of Purpose, stating why you should be considered for the vacancy and your plans in research and teaching. Be as specific as possible, e.g., giving examples of how you aim to transfer your knowledge to undergraduate and graduate students, and detailing potential collaboration networks with other researchers you may have developed, or intend to develop in the future.

The CV must be must be structured as follows:

  1. P ersonal background: name, address, contact telephone (with country and city codes), e-mail address, web page (if any).
  2. Educational experience (university or institution, courses taught, years).
  3. Professional experience (company, duties, years).
  4. Education: list of all degrees or professional titles indicating granting institutions and dates, beginning with your secondary education diploma. If you are currently enrolled in a doctoral program, indicate the date you expect to obtain the degree.
  5. Research
    1. List of journal publications.
    2. List of other publications such as: reports, books or book chapters, conferences attended, research projects where participated, patents, etc.
  6. Other: prizes and awards, computer skills, languages, other background information that you consider relevant.

Once the complete set of application materials has been received and reviewed, the applicant will be contacted and informed whether or not his/her application has been accepted for further consideration. If this initial screening is successful, the candidate will be asked to give a lecture about his/her current research topics and be interviewed by faculty members of the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering, the Dean of the School of Engineering and the Selection Committee.
