Resumen:

Académico a jornada completa desde 1972; Profesor Titular desde 1986. Pionero en desarrollo de modelos de elección discreta y su aplicación a determinar disposición al pago por reducir externalidades (accidentes, ruido, contaminación). Con su equipo investigador han desarrollado metodologías utilizadas hoy en Australia, España y Noruega. En 2007 se integra al Instituto Milenio en Sistemas Complejos de Ingeniería (y en 2009 al Proyecto Basal asociado); en 2009 es invitado a participar en el Proyecto TEMPO, financiado por 5 años por el gobierno Noruego, y en 2010 integra al equipo chileno que lidera el Centro de Excelencia BRT-Accross Latitudes and Cultures (financiado por Volvo Research and Educational Foundations), con participación del MIT, Sydney University, Universidad Tecnológica de Lisboa y EMBARQ. Ha publicado más de 100 artículos en revistas indexadas. Co-autor de Modelling Transport, libro publicado por Wiley que refleja el estado del arte en la disciplina, con más de 10.000 copias vendidas (3a edición); texto base en mayoría de programas de postgrado en transporte en el mundo, ha sido traducido al italiano (2004), al español (2008) y está siendo traducido al chino. Ha editado 3 libros internacionales y es autor de otros 2 en español sobre modelos de demanda y econometría. Co-autor de Micro-GUTS, un juego de simulación para planificadores de transporte utilizado en más de 50 instituciones académicas. Editor de área de Transport Reviews, y miembro del comité editorial de las revistas Transportation, Transportation Research B, Transport Policy, International Planning Studies Transportation Letters y Journal of Choice Modelling. Ha dirigido o asesorado estudios de transporte en áreas urbanas de América Latina y Europa, involucrando la aplicación de técnicas agregadas y desagregadas de modelación de demanda, y el uso de datos de preferencias reveladas y declaradas.
